About the program

Personnel responsible for processing or accepting goods presented as general cargo or processing mail other than Dangerous Goods

This program is in compliance with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) certification requirements and it is recommended for 'Personnel Responsible for Processing or Accepting Goods Presented as General Cargo' as per IATA's DGR - section 1.5 and in accordance with function 7.2 in IATA's 'Dangerous Goods Training Guidance'. 

Duration of Training - 16 hours (2 days)

  • Freight forwarder staff involved in the handling, processing and accepting goods presented as general cargo
  • Operator and ground handling agent staff involved in handling, processing and accepting goods presented as general cargo
  • Airline and cargo training specialists
  • Operations managers and frontline supervisors

Objectives

After completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the national and international legal framework on the air transport of Dangerous Goods
  • Understand the specific responsibilities of the shipper and operator.
  • Know how to detect hidden/undeclared Dangerous Goods based on the markings and labellings on a package containing general cargo and the description on the cargo document including invoice, packing list and air waybill.
  • Identify and classify dangerous goods
  • Interpret hazard communication
  • Detect hidden dangerous goods in cargo and mail
  • Learn to check documentation and packages for indications of undeclared dangerous goods
  • Explain the basic Emergency Response procedures

Certification

A Certificate valid with GCAA will be issued upon the successful completion of the course assessment. Being an CBTA approved provider (IATA Montreal, Canada) , the successful candidates can obtain IATA Certification as well. This Certificate is valid for two years.

Class Activities

  • Simulation exercises and case studies on various types of Dangerous Goods found undeclared in general cargo. These exercises will progressively increase participant’sknowledge and skills on how to detect undeclared Dangerous Goods from entering the system.
  • Final assessment (theory and practical) on the last day of class to assess participants’ knowledge, skills, and attitude on the application of these regulations.
