The Highfield Level 3 International Award in First Aid at Work and The Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is a qualification aimed at providing candidates with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to support first aid and the safe use of a defibrillator in the workplace. This qualification is accredited and recognised internationally and has been developed to protect customers, staff, brand reputation and profits.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification
This qualification is usually obtained by taking a 3-day (18 hours) classroom-based course.

Learning Outcomes

The candidate will:

• Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
• Know how to assess an incident
• Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
• Know how to manage a casualty who is not breathing normally and unresponsive
• Know how to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
• Know how to recognise and assist a casualty with a minor injury
• Know how to manage a casualty who is in shock
• Know how to administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• Know how to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries

How is the qualification assessed
This qualification is assessed by two methods:

• practical observation
• center marked multiple choice theory assessment. This theory assessment will be via a series of multiple-choice questions, which can be a written assessment or conducted orally by the assessor

Highfield Level 3 International Award in First Aid at Work and Use of an AED from HABC, valid for 3 years recognised by DCAS
