Here are the five critical actions every BLS-trained individual should follow:
Before anything else, make sure the environment is safe—for you and the victim.
💡 Why it matters: Entering an unsafe scene (e.g., traffic, fire, electrical hazards) can endanger you and delay help.
Gently tap and shout, “Are you okay?”
If you find no response, immediately call for help. If others are around, delegate tasks (e.g., call emergency services, get an AED).
💡 Pro tip: Always check for responsiveness before starting CPR.
Check the person’s chest for movement (breathing) and feel for a pulse (usually at the carotid artery) for no more than 10 seconds.
💡 Agonal gasps are not normal breathing.
Followed by 30 chest compressions at a depth of at least 2 inches, (rate of 100–120 per minute.)
Follow with 2 rescue breaths if trained. Continue the cycle without unnecessary interruptions.
💡 Effective CPR
When the AED arrives:
💡 Early defibrillation greatly increases the chance of survival.
BLS is not just theory—it’s a life-saving skill that can be used in public places, homes, workplaces, or anywhere a sudden cardiac event may occur.
Certified BLS training equips you with hands-on practice, real-life scenarios, and confidence to act fast when seconds matter most.
Take a certified BLS training course and be prepared to make a difference when it truly counts.
